The Recurring Character

If you’ve been coming here a while, maybe you’ve noticed that today’s story connects to a couple of others.

In fact, today’s story is about Micah Hogue, which means it reaches all the way back to our June 2020 entry — the first post after our initial launch. I had no intention of ever using Micah again — but maybe it was inevitable that I would, given how that story was a sliver of action between other implied events. It started with Hogue hitchhiking, getting picked up by a stranger. How could I not get to wondering what exactly that stranger was up to before he met Micah? We posted a story answering that question (partway) in April 2021.

Now here it is 2022, and it felt like time to find out how Micah has been since that encounter. And today’s story already has a sequel in the pipes, too — next month, we’ll hear a little more about that locked door in his house.

L. G. Merrick

L. G. Merrick has lived in a thousand cities and towns, during two long millennia. Each place he lives comes to feel haunted and grim. L. G. Merrick’s mind is full of scorpions.
